Talk of Terri Irwin's 'secret lover' hosed down by Zoo

AN AUSTRALIA Zoo comment has raised questions about a national magazine article about Terri Irwin's "secret boyfriend".

New Idea has published a story about how Terri "fell" for hunter Jim Lassen as a young woman in the United States in the 1980s, before she met Steve Irwin.

But a cryptic comment by an Australia Zoo spokesman has raised questions about whether there was a romance, let alone a secret.

"We're aware of this article, but as you can imagine - over Terri's career, her popularity has grown and subsequently attracted people who have said they know her quite well when this is not necessarily always the case," the spokesman said.

In the article, Mr Lassen claims he met Terri while working on her sister's house.

He described her as "very polite, very nice" and "a sweet girl".

He claims she initially pursued him and he broke off their relationship to get back together with an old girlfriend.
