YOUR SAY: In recent months several abattoirs and meat works have closed.

Various reasons have been given but a fact that we shouldn't ignore is the number of people turning away from eating red meat.

A poll released by Roy Morgan research revealed that between 2012 and 2016 the number of adults eating all or almost all vegetarian rose to more than 2 million persons (11.2 % of our population).

Future jobs won't be in abattoirs slicing up "terrified" animals, PETA the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals says, but in new technology that grows clean, hygienic "artificial meat" in a lab. I think that most of us prefer the real stuff.

An interesting point, Bill Gates and Richard Branson have joined other rich business giants in putting up funding for this.

Branson said that, in the future, our meat would be plant-based, clean and we would no longer need to kill animals to produce meat.

Two scary questions - what will happen to all of our sheep, cattle, chicken, pig farmers in the future? What is the world going to do with all of these animals?
