Charges laid after racist tirade hurled at train guard

QUEENSLAND police have questioned two men about a vile racist rant against a train security guard after reaction to footage posted online made headlines around the world.

Police said at the weekend two men, aged 17 and 18, were assisting them voluntarily with their inquiries and charges have been laid.

In the video, a young man is seen racially abusing security guard who had asked him to get off the train due to anti-social behaviour.

He repeatedly hurls racist abuse at the guard before his friend filming the encounter manages to drag him off the train.

WARNING: Video contains EXTREMELY strong language

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Sunday the racist abuse levelled against the guard was un-Australian.

"I think it is un-Australian to abuse people in a public place just because you don't like the way they look," he said.

"Or you do not like the way they dress or you make assumptions about what they believe.

"That is completely un-Australian and it just should not happen."

Queensland Multicultural Affairs Minister Glen Elmes said all Queenslanders should condemn this sort of behaviour.

"The full force of the law should be brought down on the drunken imbecile depicted in the video," he said.

"Luckily, he is far from the typical Queenslander, who is tolerant and welcoming of people from all cultures."

It is understood the incident occurred on October 2 at a station believed to be in Brisbane's western suburbs
