Joy ride claims two young dads
AS the sun rose over Maryborough yesterday shattered glass and yellow spraypaint was all that was left at the scene where a car crash had claimed two young lives.
Mourners placing flowers at the pole on Walker St could only imagine what had unfolded just hours before.
About 9.30 on Tuesday night Emergency Services were called out in the rain to a two-car crash.
When they arrived they were confronted with an all-too familiar scene.
A high-powered car was believed to have skidded down a wet road. The sedan and a ute crashed. A sedan was now twisted around the lifeless bodies of two young men.
The trapped driver, close to death himself, can only wait in shock as firefighters work to free him and get him to a hospital.
Another of his passengers lay on the grass in a critical condition after being thrown from the car.
The men in the ute watch in horror, grateful they are alive.
Armed with gloves and a spray bottle, the local forensic crash unit chief can only shake his head and say “what is it going to take?”
Yesterday, as word of the tragedy spread throughout a community still in mourning over the road death of young man last month, tributes flooded social networking sites for the two lives lost and the families they left behind.
