He 'threatened to bash her' over toothbrushes and cash

WHEN Dale Melksham went loudly door knocking at a house in Barney Point, he not only had money on his mind but good oral hygiene too.

He demanded money from the woman who answered his door knocks, then claimed she owed him for toothbrushes.

Police prosecutor Gavin Reece told Gladstone Magistrates Court that Melksham went to the woman's house on March 12.

"At the front door he banged loudly, aggressively and yelled out that she owed him money," Mr Reece said.

"He refused to leave and threatened to bash her and to get other people to bash her.

"Witnesses (neighbours) say he didn't leave despite being told to. And continued to yell out.

"Police attended and he told officers that she owes him money and for toothbrushes."

Melksham, 48, from Calliope, pleaded guilty to trespass; and to contravening a police requirement to attend Gladstone police station by March 21.

Lawyer Jun Pepito said the woman had previously stayed at Melksham's house with another person when they then had nowhere else to live. After finding other accommodation they left.

Mr Pepito said Melksham had been drinking when he made the decision to go to the house and collect the money.

"He should have talked civilly and not revert to an argument with her," he said.

Magistrate Penelope Hay told Melksham his history weighs against him.

He was sentenced to three months jail immediately suspended and fined $300.
