THE new Coles being built at Sippy Downs looks to be on track to open early 2017.
Walls and roof beams have been erected and the space is starting to take shape, Division 6 councillor Christian Dickson reported to local constituents after touring the facility on Thursday.
"The project is progressing well despite the weather with areas of the site holding water showing the need for adequate (drainage)," Cr Dickson wrote on the Sippy Downs and District Community website.
Plumbing, roofing and insulation is now being installed, and a new right-turning lane has been installed on Sippy Downs Dr, he said.
Located at the corner of Stringybark Rd and Sippy Downs Dr, construction on the Coles began in March. As reported in the Daily, 100 full-time jobs are expected to be on offer when the store opens.
The 3900sq m supermarket will have a 150sq m bottle shop adjacent and a carpark.
Cr Dickson took questions from his constituents to the Coles construction team:
When will the centre open?
When can residents apply for jobs?
Recruitment will occur during November 2016. Visit www.coles.com.au to register interest.
Will there be enough parking and how will it be regulated to stop students parking there?
There will be 170 parking spaces and the centre will have timed parking which will be monitored by parking regulators.
The Daily contacted Coles and Cr Dickson for comment but they were unable to be reached before deadline.
