'Worst movie of 2017' getting a sequel

LESS than a month after its original film Bright was slammed by critics as 'the worst movie of 2017', Netflix has announced it will make a sequel.

The big-budget fantasy cop drama premiered on the global streaming service on December 22 and stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as LAPD officers in a fictional world where humans live alongside mythical creatures such as fairies, orcs and elves.

David Ayer will write and direct the sequel with Smith and Edgerton expected to return and Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless are set as producers.

Despite the negative press, Bright is the highest viewed Netflix film ever on the service in its first week of release and one of the biggest originals Netflix has ever launched.

According to Netflix, Bright is its No 1 movie in every country (more than 190) since its release.

It is unclear if the film's other Aussie star, Lucy Fry, will also return as elf Tikka.
