BRISBANE has not got its wish to host the AFLW Grand Final at the Gabba after the turf was ruled unsafe.

The AFL confirmed this afternoon the Lions will play Adelaide at Metricon Stadium in the inaugural AFLW decider on Saturday at 2pm.

The game will likely be played as a curtain-raiser to the Suns-Lions Round 1 QClash at the venue, which is scheduled to start at 7.05pm local time.

The league, together with Stadiums Queensland this morning conducted a final turf inspection at the ground after concerns raised over its condition following Adele concerts last week.

Brisbane marquees Tayla Harris and Sabrina Frederick-Traub said they would prefer to play at the Gabba over Metricon after the Suns floated their home ground as a possibility should the Lions earn the right to host.

A turf war between the AFL and cricket erupted after cricket officials warned the pitch for the first Ashes Test later this year would be ruined if the AFLW Grand Final and Brisbane's first two home games were played at the venue.

The Lions earned the right to host the Grand Final after finishing on top of the ladder after seven home-and-away rounds, while the Crows won through to the decider with a come-from-behind win over Collingwood on Sunday.

Brisbane has played its women's home games at the South Pine Sports Complex in Brendale, which only has a 3000 capacity and was unsuitable for the decider.
