Woman allegedly funded luxury cruise through phishing scam

A MARYBOROUGH woman will remain behind bars after being charged with fraud and hacking offences over allegedly funding a luxury holiday through a $93,000 scam.

Wendy Janine Baulch, 52, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday after being extradited from New South Wales earlier in the week.

A police statement issued shortly before the court appearance alleges Ms Bulch gained access to the business she scammed via a phishing scam email which subsequently provided access to the company's funds.

It is alleged she then used the money to pay for a flight to Florida and a ticket aboard a luxury cruise travelling from Miami to Sydney.

Police further allege she booked a second leg aboard the cruise from Sydney to Rangoon, Burma.

Ms Bulch was arrested as the cruise docked on Tuesday in Sydney ahead of its pending departure to Rangoon.

Her matter will be back before the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
