Wild dogs maul lamb
A LOCAL woman was devastated when she found her daughters' beloved pet lamb Millie dead, believed to be mauled by wild dogs on Sunday night.
Annette Briggs said she was surprised to find Millie's body in such a state.
“Normally they all wait at the gate but little Millie never came up, so I knew something was wrong,” she said
“I have never had a problem like this before, not here and not in all the time I was growing up around here.
“You really never think it will happen to you.”
Miss Briggs said she didn't hear anything during the night.
“We have our dogs up here in the yard and they didn't bark or anything and there was no noise from the lambs, so it must have happened very quickly,” she said
“I'm not really sure if it was wild dogs, but really what else could it be.
“She had intestines ripped out and bones coming through and it looks like a dog attack.
“If it was a pack of wild dogs, all three sheep would probably have gone, so maybe it was just one or two.”
The Regency Downs resident said four month old Millie was bottle fed by her daughters after they got her as a newborn lamb.
“It is a bit sad to see her gone, because she was a good lamb and pet for the girls.
“They took care of her and fed her.”
She said she called Lockyer Valley Regional Council to set a trap this week.
“That's really all I can do about it,” she said
“There is nothing to do now but wait and see what happens from here, whether we catch something or not.”
“We will be locking the others up in their pen at night now.”
She said she want to raise awareness of the incident amongst those living in the region.
“I think people have the right to know that there might be some wild dogs around here because there are a lot of people with animals.”
