Why bizarre break-up stunt could be Wookiee error
A GORDONVALE mum-of-three has been left fuming after her phone number was plastered on posters across Cairns for a "Chewbacca Roar Contest" allegedly by a bitter ex-boyfriend who she busted cheating.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said the pair split earlier this month after a three-year relationship when she found illicit messages to women on his social media account.
One of his friends then revealed he was on a camping trip with a woman at Ross and Locke swimming hole.
She said she started getting odd calls about two weeks ago, with one caller revealing the alleged source.
"Someone called and said they thought it might have been done as a joke because they watched (a man) put up the poster," she said.
"It hurts my feelings.
"And it's waking my children up in the middle of the night because I'm getting calls at 1am.
"I thought when we first met he was mature, but it just goes to show having a job doesn't mean you're mature."
The woman, 29, said she had spoken to local police and wanted to take the matter further.
A police spokesman confirmed what she had alleged may be considered an offence, under the charge of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, or even potentially stalking.
The woman said she had now received about a dozen phone calls with people trying to imitate the popular Star Wars character and had now taken to texting them back to say: "congratulations you have won, go collect $100 from the police station".
She said she originally caught out her ex because he had used her phone to log onto Facebook and when he started acting strangely earlier this month.
She had a look at his account which he had failed to log out of and found messages between him and at least five other women.
"He was saying (things like) "wish I could be with you and not here"," she said.
"It was all going really great until about the 5th of July.
"All of a sudden he started treating me differently and hanging around strange people."
