Who nicked kinky cop outfit?

MISSING – one kinky cop costume.

The novelty item is one of the more unusual things to disappear from Nicole Newman’s store in Rockhampton’s East Street recently.

And the Model House part-owner’s frustration is obvious by the sign in the front window of the business which reads: “Yes someone has STOLEN this costume. It’s so nice that these people live in this town. Great for business. Thanks so much.”

Nicole, who works with her parents, said she was sick of finding empty packets in the store.

She said she often tried to keep an eye on customers who seemed to be taking items to far parts of the store.

“I’ve had a young girl who took some stockings up the back and was taking them out of the packet, and I asked her if she needed a hand and she said she was just wanting to try them on, but you can’t really believe that,” Nicole said.

She said she often found just parts of the packaging left in the store, and tried to put notices up about theft to discourage it.

“There’s not much you can do until they walk outside,” Nicole said.

She said as the store was busy it was difficult to keep an eye on everyone but staff tried their best.

She said it was disappointing for good customers, with some stores forced to put their prices up to cope with the shoplifting.

“The bad ones just spoil it for everyone.”
