Who did Paul Pisasale call first after his arrest?

THE first phone call former Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale made after his June arrest was to a driver he had previously asked to cover for him, police will allege.

It is believed that moments after police told the 65-year-old on June 20 that he was under arrest for extortion and assault offences, Pisasale requested to call his lawyer..

But police will allege that rather than contacting a lawyer, Pisasale phoned one of his former Ipswich City Council drivers and spoke to him about the unfolding situation and assault allegations.

It will be alleged Pisasale had last year called the same driver about the alleged assault incident and explained that they might have to concoct a cover story.
