Full of rage and 3 times over limit at 7.30 in morning

WHAT started with a brief moment of road rage ended in a Toowoomba man being fined, placed on probation and taken off the road for 12 months.

Police patrolling the Highfields area about 7.30am, August 28, had spotted Daniel John Iddles yelling at another driver as he drove past, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Pulled over, the 40-year-old blew a breath/alcohol reading of 0.145.

He told police he was on his way to work and thought he would have been okay to drive, expressing surprise at the high reading, police prosecutor Sergeant Mike Robinson told the court.

Iddles had also been pulled over by police on James St in May after being found driving a car reportedly stolen which had the wrong registration plates.

His solicitor Brad Skuse told the court his client had stayed at a friend's place in Gayndah the night before after damaging his car.

Both had been drinking and when his client woke the next morning he realised he might be late for work in Toowoomba.

The court heard Iddles took the number plates off his own car, placed them on his friend's car which he drove to Toowoomba.

Iddles told police he had intended returning the car after he had enough money to pay for the hire of a flatbed truck to send it back, the court heard.

Mr Skuse said the stealing of the car charge arose from his client not returning it though it had since been returned to the owner.

Iddles pleaded guilty to drink-driving, stealing a vehicle, driving with wrong registration plates and breaching bail.

Magistrate Damian Carroll placed him on two years probation to include the $500 Under the Limit drink-driving program, fined him $800 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
