What happens when motorists climb inside a truck?

THIS video shows car drivers certainly don't know it all when it comes to driving a truck.

Sitting in the driver's seat of a truck, three car drivers with more than 40 years of combined driving experience declared they would be clear for driving.

The motorists, who'd checked their mirrors and couldn't see anyone on the road, were the subjects of a New South Wales Road Safety - NSW GOV video posted on Facebook.

When the car drivers stepped out of the cab and saw what was actually on the road in front of them, they were all flabbergasted.

A motorcyclist, cyclists and pedestrians was what they saw.

"I'm a hundred percent sure that no one was there," one of the drivers, Alison, said. "I would not have seen them had I not stood up."

The message was clear - trucks have blind spots and they might not be able to see you.

As for what the car drivers would take away from the "eye opening" experience, they said they would be more careful and aware around trucks.

Facebook commenters were full of praise for the video and it's message.

Chris Randall said it was "informal and not patronising" while Sinead Hadley said it should be taught to everyone who has to renew their licence.

Danny Kea, who has been a truck driver for many many years, said he still was in fear of the danger every day for other drivers on the road.

"A truck needs a space to stop and to turn left or right," he wrote.

"Let's be honest, you and I can make a huge difference on the road today for the safety of other road users.

"Let's do it, let's work together."
