WEEKEND WARRIORS: Top five stars on the Downs
WITH cricket still in full swing and league and football not far away there was plenty of sport to enjoy at the weekend.
Here is The Chronicle’s weekend top five stars.
STEVE FRANCSICUS (RUGBY LEAGUE)
The Dalby skipper sounded out a warning to the rest of the TRL with a top-notch display in a trial against Brighton.
As lively as ever, the centre helped to set up two tries in a 24-12 defeat of the Roosters, looking in good shape in the process.
BLAKE ANDERSON (CRICKET)
His efforts helped to give Northern Brothers Diggers a real shot at outright victory against Highfields-Railways.
Anderson brought up his century with a six in just 70 balls, before taking three wickets in the second innings.
KATIE WOLLSTEIN (HOCKEY)
Three games, three hat-tricks.
That’s the impressive scoring form Katie Wollstein finds herself in for the CS Vixens, with a devastating third quarter helping her team to a share of top spot in the Club Glenvale Challenge.
VECO SERUGO (FOOTBALL)
Serugo was a key man for the SWQ Thunder last season and early signs are pointing to that continuing this year.
He opened the scoring against Western Pride at the weekend and was a reliable presence during his minutes on the park.
JAYDEN RICHARDSON (FOOTBALL)
The young goalkeeper could prove to be a very astute signing for Willowburn.
After an impressive performance against Maroochy Swans a few weeks back, Richardson put in another top shift between the sticks against Buderim.
Richardson made a number of key seasons and should be more than up to the task against Brisbane opposition.
