THE NEWLYWEDS whose wedding reception at the Heritage Village went "pear-shaped" have received a refund from the Rockhampton Regional Council.

Gracemere's Darryl and Natalie Yarrow paid $7020 for their wedding reception, held at the council-run venue in early May.

Last month, they received a refund of $3100.

The council confirmed a partial refund was paid, but would not comment further.

Mr Yarrow said while he and Natalie did not receive a formal apology, they were satisfied with the outcome.

"It's done and dusted now," he said.

"It was good that the council admitted that things could have been done a bit better."

In May, a devastated Mr Yarrow told The Morning Bulletin that his wedding reception was "atrocious", and he was disgusted by the service.

He said the band was shut down just after 8.30pm for supposedly being too loud, the bar tab was allowed to blow out without their knowledge, and no heating was provided as the temperature fell.

Peter Finnigan, president of the Friends of the Heritage Village Association, countered the claims when the story appeared.

He said it was the first negative report he was aware of in the 11 years he had been a volunteer there.

He said catering and bar staff had acted in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.

The Bulletin was unable to contact Mr Finnigan for comment this week.
