OPINION: Wallabies given no chance against the All Blacks

RUGBY UNION: Wow, what a demolition.

The Reds were wiped off the park by a clinical and ruthless Crusaders side, losing 38-5 at the weekend.

There's no use talking about them this week; they were schooled, utterly decimated.

Let's move on to something more pertinent.

Having lost the likes of Carter, McCaw, Nonu and Conrad Smith through retirement, a misinformed pundit who shan't be named made the bold statement at the start of the season that the All Blacks would be vulnerable this year.

Not bloody likely!

The All Blacks are never vulnerable. On the strength of their Super Rugby performances, they could put out B, C and D sides who would give the Wallabies a touch-up.

It's not just the Reds who have been put to the sword. The Brumbies, Australia's highest placed team, have been hammered by both the Chiefs and the Highlanders in recent weeks.

New Zealand teams seem to have more confidence in all areas of the pitch; they attack with such vigour and back themselves whatever the situation.

There has to be some sort of edict, a coaching directive from the higher-ups in NZ rugby to play a fast, attacking game.

It's a good plan in principle but teams like the Crusaders produce it every week.

New Zealand derbies are simply better to watch when compared to the dour Australian slugfests.

Speaking of which, the match of the round will most certainly be the South Island derby where the Highlanders host the Crusaders on Friday night.

What a match it should be.

The Reds will play in Wellington this weekend and then host the Sunwolves on May 21 at Suncorp Stadium.
