A NEW poll has found mining magnate Clive Palmer would win wide support with voters if he formed his own political party.

The Galaxy Research poll conducted last week found 27% of respondents would vote for the billioniare if he launched a new party.

The poll also showed that 34% of respondents believed Mr Palmer would make a better leader than Premier Campbell Newman.

In all, 53% were dissatisfied with the State Government's performance. The figure peaked at 81% among Labor supporters but still sat at a solid 20% for LNP voters.

Mr Palmer did not rate so well in the personality stakes. The poll found 43% of people liked Mr Newman's personality but only 34% preferred Mr Palmer's.
