Infrastructure funds vital regional boost

BILLIONS of dollars have been set aside for infrastructure in the Queensland budget including $180 million for vital regional projects.

South-eastern commuter rail lines will receive a $634million boost including a $50 million "down payment" for the Cross River Rail project.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the $180 million Significant Regional Infrastructure Projects Program would create 280 jobs. The budget also set aside $90 million for infrastructure through the Building Our Regions program.

But LNP leader Tim Nicholls said spending was "not as high as it should be" in regional areas. - GEOFF EGAN
