Veteran newsman miffed at Nine axing

SACKED Channel Nine news reporter Neil Doorley, who has been let go as part of a newsroom shake-up on Mt Coot-tha, says he was given no warning or reason for his unexpected dismissal.

He was the latest in a line of high-profile dismisses, in the wake of August's so-called Choppergate scandal.

Mr Doorley was told by the network early yesterday morning that his contract, due to expire on December 31, would not be renewed.

Last night, Mr Doorley cleaned out his desk at Mt Coot-tha after nearly 15 years with the network.

The father of three children, aged 6, 8 and 15, told he was shocked by Nine's decision and was given little indication of their reasoning.

"There was no reason given to me apart from the fact the newsroom is going through change and obviously I'm not part of the future," he said.
