Unsung local hero on cover of phone book

YOU may have noticed a familiar face on the front of your new phone book.

Well, Helidon local Jim Friis has made the cover, fitting the theme 'Inspiring others to achieve'.

The theme recognised the unsung heroes who selflessly help others achieve goals and are an inspiration to the local community.

Jim said he received a phone call saying he had been nominated and then went through an interview process, eventually getting the coveted spot on the front of the book.

"I am very honoured and I feel humbled that someone has actually put me up for it," he said.

Jim has been a Zen Do Kai martial arts instructor for more than 30 years and trains local residents of all ages and abilities, helping them achieve their goals.

He is also the head of the sport in Queensland.

Jim credited his achievements not only to his work but to his team.
