Unbeaten Stars continue T20 dominance
THE Melbourne Stars may have been missing seven regulars, but the Perth Scorchers still could not beat them at the MCG yesterday.
The undefeated Stars made it eight from eight in the preliminary rounds, the first side in BBL history to complete a clean sweep, after beating their fellow semi-finalists by 20 runs.
Acting captain Brad Hodge top-scored with 61 off 43 balls as the Stars made 6-161.
In reply, the Scorchers finished on 9-141 with fast bowler and man of the match John Hastings again impressing with the figures of 3-20, taking his haul to 12 wickets for the competition.
Perth skipper Simon Katich led the way for his side with 30, while Adam Voges made 29.
The result means the Stars will host the Hobart Hurricanes in the first semi-final next Tuesday and the Scorchers will head to Sydney to play the Sixers in the second semi the following day. All the Australian T20 squad players will be available to play in the semis as the three-match Twenty20 series against England ends on Sunday.
