Two injured after man rampages with iron bar

GOLD Coast police have charged a man after an incident in which two people were allegedly assaulted and a number of vehicles damaged in Southport overnight.

Police will allege just before 11pm the man attended an address on Woomera Crescent and began causing a disturbance at the front of a home.

It will be further alleged the man assaulted two other men who were at the residence, striking them with an iron bar, before entering a car and ramming four parked cars.

The man then allegedly fled the scene in the vehicle before being located at an address in Molendinar, where he was taken into custody.

A 53-year-old Southport man was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of injuries to his ribs and back.

Another 50-year-old Southport man was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of facial and non-life threatening head injuries.

A 41-year-old Molendinar man has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, five counts of wilful damage and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and extortion.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today, July 4.
