Twice the elation for Hamilton

KARIM Sahibafp

VICTORY was so much sweeter the second time around for Lewis Hamilton.

Leading the 2014 Formula One championship by 17 points ahead of the final race in Abu Dhabi, the Englishman gave challenger and Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg no chance by leading throughout to win his 11th race of the season.

After starting from pole, Rosberg battled mechanical problems during the race, eventually coming in 14th, but retaining second place in the championship ahead of Australia's Daniel Ricciardo, who came from the back of the grid to finish fourth.

Hamilton's victory made him just the fourth multiple British world champion, joining greats Graham Hill, Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart.

His previous title came for McLaren in 2008, but the 29-year-old said this victory had been a better experience.

"In 2007 it was a very bad experience losing the world championship in the last race," he said. "I fell to a low over which I had no control.

"Then in 2008 I came back and won the championship. While that was great, my emotions were shot. I wasn't so mature, I didn't have the knowledge I have now.

"This is the greatest day of my life; 2008 was a special time, but the feeling I have now is way, way past that, above and beyond.

"It's the greatest feeling I've ever had. This is like an outside-the-body experience."
