Troy has his heart in the country
TROY Cassar-Daley loves nothing more than working on the land, riding horses in his paddock and growing a vegetable or two.
At the moment, he admits his vegetable garden is thriving on neglect, thanks to their busy schedule, but he loves the country lifestyle on his farm at Fernvale, south of Brisbane.
Cassar-Daley is a country boy at heart and spent parts of his childhood in the middle of 100 acres at Grafton.
His country charm has won the hearts of country music fans.
Cassar-Daley will perform at the Pioneer Valley Country Music Festival at Wests Leagues Club in Walkerston, from this Friday to Sunday.
Cassar-Daley will be on stage with the Anthony Taylor Band, Markus Meier and Tommy Contor.
"I am so excited to be back in Mackay," he said.
"I remember a young Tommy Contor, who was part of the country music club up there - he got on stage at 15 and he was great.
"It will be wonderful to see how he has developed over the years," Cassar-Daley said.
Owning his farm has been the inspiration for some of his songwriting and, after the 2011 floods - which destroyed parts of his home - Cassar-Daley put pen to paper.
"Being a musician, I have toured to so many amazing rural areas from Blackall to Blackwater but finding our farm, it is our place where we can just switch off," he said.
"We have our own local shop, pub and post office."
He said the floods had destroyed many farms in the area and it was at the kitchen table in his farmhouse that he began to write.
"The farm is starting to look beautiful once again," Cassar-Daley said.
"It has been back-breaking work and we wouldn't have been able to do it without our friends.
"Sometimes you forget the hospitality of people and it is in those moments you have to breathe it in."
The festival kicks off on Friday night from 6.30pm.
Troy Cassar-Daley, Markus Meier and Tommy Contour will be on stage from 6pm on Saturday.
Tickets for the three-day event can be bought online at PVCMA.com.au or at Wests Leagues Club.
Free buses will run on Saturday night from Mackay, Finch Hatton, Mirani and Marian.
