Government awards stand as tribute to brave farmers
QUEENSLAND farmers and graziers who have bounced back from natural disasters and are taking part in this year's Ekka are in the running for the 2014 Minister's Resilience Awards.
Community Recovery and Resilience Minister David Crisafulli said the awards recognised primary producers in livestock and agriculture who had overcome adversity.
"With much of the state still in the grip of drought, the resilience of people on the land has been severely tested," Mr Crisafulli said.
"Every Queenslander needs a farmer and it's our turn to acknowledge their determination to rise above nature's challenges to bring the farm to the Ekka.
"These brave Queenslanders are an important part of our agricultural industry, one of the four pillars of the state's economy. The awards are a fitting tribute to them."
RNA chief executive Brendan Christou said the resilience award recognised those on the land whose perseverance was an inspiration for us all.
Nominations close July 2, 2014.
