Travis Cloke can still be in Dogs' best 22, says coach

BULLDOGS coach Luke Beveridge hasn't given up on Travis Cloke, saying the former Magpie can still have a place in his side's best 22.

The 30-year-old was axed for Saturday's clash wit St Kilda at Etihad Stadium after collecting just three marks and kicking one goal in the loss to Geelong last week.

Cloke's figures in five games this year are the worst since his first season with Collingwood in 2005.

"I think he can be (in the best 22) ... absolutely," Beveridge said.

"His omission this week is to take care of the things that we really need him to do as a key forward.

"The aerial part of the game and providing a contest is absolutely crucial for us, and the same with Jack (Redpath) as well.

"It was sort of unexpected to see what unfolded last week ... I'm sure he can tidy that up pretty quickly."

Cloke and Redpath have been replaced by star forward Jake Stringer, who returns from a knee injury, and ruckman Tim English.

The Saints will be without champion Nick Riewoldt, who is resting with a sore knee.
