Trailer comes loose

A mechanical fault on a truck travelling along Gatton-Laidley Road resulted in its trailer becoming disconnected and rolling into an empty paddock on Monday morning.

As the driver turned on the bend going past the UQ campus entrance heading towards Laidley, the drawbar snapped off the truck and left the trailer an uncontrollable moving object.

The driver of the truck said he was thankful the trailer had left the road and landed in an empty paddock and no one was harmed.

"It's lucky it happened here in an empty paddock rather than in town," he said.

"Its just one of those unforseen accidents."

The driver said he did not realise the trailer had become disconnected bar the a difference in the weight of the ride and was shocked to see the trailer in the paddock when looking back.

"The only thing I felt when I turned the corner was a slight difference in the weight," he said.

"The drawbar hit the ground and it went sideways and rolled twice.

"I've never seen it happen before but I have heard of it happening."
