Tow truck drivers threatened with a gun over car removal

TWO tow truck drivers have allegedly been threatened with a firearm.

Police say shortly before 10pm, two tow truck operators went to units on Varsity Parade to remove an illegally parked car.

Two men, one armed with a firearm, then confronted the operators while they were trying to remove the vehicle.

Police allege the men demanded the operators leave the car alone and threatened them repeatedly with the firearm.

The 29-year-old and 21-year-old operators were able to run from the scene unharmed.

The men were arrested without incident and a subsequent search of the vehicle found three replica firearms.

A 49-year-old man from Varsity Lakes has been charged with extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat of detriment.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today
