VIDEO: First international flight lands at Wellcamp airport
IN a major milestone for Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport and the region, the first plane to carry freight internationally has arrived.
Huge crowds, plane-spotters, politicians and Darling Downs producers were in attendance to watch the historic arrival.
The Cathay Pacific 747-8 jumbo cargo plane arrived at Wellcamp Airport just moments ago, after travelling from Sydney.
Its next stop will be Hong Kong, China.
Excited residents from the region were runway-side to watch the arrival.
Airport general manager Phil Gregory said international flights would provide huge economic and social benefits to the community.
Producers from the Darling Downs and Lockyer Valley are sending produce on the inaugural flight including vegetable grower Story Fresh.
The company farms at Cambooya, Grantham and Clifton and is looking to break into the export market.
