Man accused of torture while holding woman prisoner

A MAN accused of torturing and assaulting a woman while holding her prisoner 25km east of Ipswich has been remanded in custody.

Anthony Morgan Clarke, 26, faced Ipswich Magistrates Court accused of holding a 20-year-old woman against her will at Darra from Tuesday until Wednesday.

Police allege Clarke beat and tortured the woman for two days before she was found at the Southern Cross Ave home.

Clarke is charged with torture, assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty.

Clarke appeared via video-link from Richlands before an Ipswich magistrate yesterday morning.

His defence did not apply for bail.

The case will next be mentioned on April 30, when a bail application is expected to be made.
