RECORD-SERVING Queenslander Darren

Lockyer believes rookie Trent Hodkinson and Josh Reynolds will face a

daunting State of Origin debut as NSW's latest halves hopes on Wednesday night.

Lockyer said Maroon fans would make sure the inexperienced Bulldogs pair had a tough night at the 'Cauldron'.

NSW have gone through multiple combinations in the halves while trying to snap Queensland's eight-win series streak kickstarted by Lockyer's late try in the deciding third game of 2006.

NSW coach Laurie Daley has dumped last year's Roosters teammates

Mitchell Pearce and James Maloney and taken a

massive punt on new boys Hodkinson and Reynolds.

The pair has guided Canterbury to the top of the NRL ladder after a number of close wins and Daley has placed his faith in them to get the job done on Wednesday night against

Queensland's champion pairing of Cooper Cronk and Johnathan Thurston.

Daley knows first-hand how intimidating it is for a player to make their debut in the heat of the 'Cauldron'.

He had a nightmare debut himself in Brisbane as a 20-year-old in 1989.

"Those guys will be pretty nervous, I think Reynolds has played one game off the bench and Hodkinson is making his debut," Lockyer told APN.

"Queensland have to make it tough for them, make it really uncomfortable for them to get any rhythm happening by

getting off the line fast in defence and taking away their time.

"They'll be coming to Suncorp Stadium and while it will be a huge moment for them, it will also be a

daunting one and I think Queensland should make it as tough as they can early for them."

Lockyer said there was always a lot of pressure on players in those key positions in any big game.

"They're under a lot of pressure. There's a lot of people below the border wanting to see how they go and watching them closely," he said.
