Tim Mander promoted after Bruce Flegg's resignation

EVERTON MP Tim Mander has been promoted to Housing and Public Works Minister after Bruce Flegg's dramatic resignation.

Mr Mander, a former NRL referee, will leave his current role as the Assistant Minister for Sport and Racing and move up the ranks.

Premier Campbell Newman announced the appointment in Parliament this morning after accepting Dr Flegg's resignation yesterday afternoon.

Dr Flegg stood down after his sacked media adviser aired allegations he mislead parliament on how many contacts he had with his lobbyist son.

Mr Newman has also appointed Gympie MP David Gibson to the role of chair of a state development committee.

Mr Gibson resigned as Police Minister in April when he was caught driving on a suspended licence after he failed to pay a speeding fine.

In other appointments announced in this morning's cabinet shuffle, Mirani MP Ted Malone will become the new assistant minister for police.
