Three rescued after jetski incident off Noosa

Three people were rescued off Noosa on Sunday after they let off flares when one of their jetskis took on too much water.

According to Surf Life Saving Queensland, the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter was tasked by police and found two jetskis and three stranded passengers.

The helicopter guided the Coast Guard to the stranded jetski for assistance, and everyone was safely returned to shore.

Air Crewman Sean Orsborn said the safety equipment the jetski riders used assisted the crew in locating them quickly.

"A member of the public sighted the flares being deployed and called emergency services," he said.

"We were already in the air on a routine patrol so were able to respond immediately to assist in the search for the distressed vessel.

"We located two jet skis and three riders, one of the skis had started taking on water and was partially submerged."

Mr Orsborn said the incident serves as a timely reminder to always carry the appropriate safety equipment when operating vessels offshore.

"If they weren't prepared and didn't have flares it might have been some time before they received help."

The incident came after two teenage boys were rescued from the cliffs of Point Cartwright on Saturday afternoon. One was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury and the other escaped unharmed.
