Three committed to stand trial for Gold Coast man's murder

THREE men have been committed to stand trial over the murder of Shaun Barker, whose remains were found near Tin Can Bay in 2014.

Cooloola Cove men Stephen John Armitage, 47, and his son Matthew Leslie Armitage, 23, and Highfields man William Frances Dean, 39, have been accused of murdering 33-year-old Mr Barker. They have also been charged with torture, interfering with a corpse and deprivation of liberty.

Mr Barker, a Gold Coast resident, was last seen in December 2013.

It is alleged Mr Barker was taken from the Gold Coast and was tortured and held in an esky before he was killed.

His remains were found in a forest near Tin Can Bay in April 2014.

A committal hearing for the men, which started earlier this year before being adjourned, came to an end on Monday when the three were committed to a supreme court trial.

All three have been remanded in custody. - ARM NEWSDESK
