Theo's top effort fails to save struggling Roar from defeat
SOME outstanding saves by Roar goalkeeper Michael Theo could not stop Central Coast prevailing 1-0 at Bluetongue Stadium on Sunday - and delivering another blow to Brisbane's finals hopes.
Theo came to the fore for the visitors in the 23rd minute, stopping a powerful Michael McGlinchey volley.
Just moments later, the custodian showed incredible reflexes to parry a close-range Patrick Zwaanswijk header.
Bernie Ibini then missed the follow-up - one of the easiest chances seen this season - right in front of goal.
But Ibini, voted the under-21 player of the month for February, redeemed himself with a brilliant left-foot strike after 34 minutes which Theo was powerless to stop.
The Mariners then produced two more rapid-fire chances soon after Ibini's goal, with McGlinchey finding himself in a one-on-one with Theo, the Roar veteran again pulling off an impressive save.
Brisbane had a chance to snatch a draw in the very final play, with Jade North's volley from a Stefan Nijland free kick flying over the top of goal.
