Teens busted having sex on police memorial

THE old saying "get a room" took on new emphasis when a teenage woman and her man were found having sex on the Toowoomba police memorial in Neil St.

A police officer had come upon the young couple in horizontal embrace on the sacred police site outside the Police Southern Region District headquarters in the early hours of the morning one weekend last month.

Undoubtedly resisting the temptation to throw a bucket of water over the copulating couple, the officer instead resorted to a stern voice to separate the pair.

The 19-year-old Toowoomba woman was charged with public nuisance and was due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court this week, but didn't show up when her case was called.

Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck asked for some details of the offence before deciding to hear the matter in the defendant's absence.

Prosecutor Sergeant Tony Costa said there really wasn't a lot of detail to convey to the court.

"He was on his back on the ground, she was on top with her dress up, then down," Sgt Costa said reading from the police report.

"She appeared to be moderately intoxicated," he said.

The man's name did not appear on the court list and inquiries by The Chronicle to find out what action had been taken against him proved fruitless.

So, in fairness, the name of the teenage woman is not published here although her name appeared on the court list and The Chronicle had every right to make known her identity in this report.

She will be receiving a $450 fine in the post.
