Confirmed: ACL tragedy for teen Aussie snowboard star

TEENAGE star Tess Coady has been forced out of the Olympic Games snowboard slopestyle event at the Winter Olympics after an injury in warm-up.

The Australian Olympic Committee confirmed on Sunday she ruptured an ACL while preparing for her Olympic debut.

"She was immediately escorted from the course and attended to by the Australian team doctor and physio who confirmed she had ruptured her ACL, meaning she will not be able to compete at the Games," the AOC reported.

"I am extremely disappointed with injuring my knee before I had the chance to compete," Coady said.

"It's a very difficult time but I'm getting great support from the medical team and my teammates.

"I'm going to work hard to come back even better in the future."

The 17-year-old Coady, who had a bronze medal at the World Cup event in Colorado last month and was considered a medal hope, hurt her knee in a landing gone wrong.

"She was on the last jump, over rotated and was in the fence as a result of that," Channel Seven reported. "She straight away knew something was wrong, was in the hands of the medicos and unfortunately had to pull out."

Jessica Rich withdrew from the event earlier on Sunday.

Coady, ranked No. 5 in the world, is also entered in the Big Air event later in the Games and it was initially thought she could recover in time.
