BURNS victim Matthew Richards has spoken out in the hope he can prevent others from being injured by fire.

The 15-year-old is making a strong recovery from serious burns he received at a backyard party in Harristown in late August.

His friend Paris Turkington, 16, is still recovering from serious burns she also received when accelerant was poured onto an open fire.

Matthew told Channel 10 News he wanted other people to take note of what had happened and think about the effects of pouring accelerant on a fire.

His friend Cody Schaeffer has been in contact with clubs, pubs and cafes across southern Queensland to organise a fundraiser for Matthew's ongoing recovery.

Mr Schaeffer said a competition was being held to see which venue could collect the most tips on October 19.

"The inspiration was to start it this year for Matt," Mr Schaeffer said.

He said more than 30 businesses between Brisbane and Goondiwindi had agreed to donate their tips to Matthew's lengthy and expensive recovery.

To get involved, call Mr Schaeffer on 0448 359 170.
