Boy believed teacher touched him inappropriately

A YEAR 7 boy believed a teacher had touched him inappropriately at school, so he went home and told his mother.

As a result, a man has been charged with two counts of indecent treatment of a child, to which he pleaded not guilty.

It was alleged in the District Court in Mackay yesterday the Mackay primary school teacher touched the 12-year-old's genitals during an art class.

The boy told a Mackay police officer, in an interview played for the jury, the teacher was helping the boy with an art project.

He then asked the boy to open his tidy tray, located under his desk, because he wanted to see how neat he kept it, the court heard.

The boy said the teacher had his hand under the open tray right above his genitals and was repeatedly tapping. The back of the man's fingers were touching the boy's genitals, the court heard.

In a separate incident, the boy said he was alone with the teacher in his classroom and the doors were closed.

The man asked to take a photo of the boy.

Police found a photo of the boy on the man's camera, which was shown in court.

It is alleged the man then asked the boy to demonstrate his flexibility for a "flexibility test" and as the boy was doing so, the man placed his hand on the lower part of the boy's back.

Afterward the man allegedly asked the boy if he had biceps or abs and asked the boy to lift his shirt and show him. He also allegedly asked the boy if he had underarm hair and pubic hair, the court heard.

"I was feeling creeped out and knew that something was wrong," the boy wrote in a statement.

The boy said at first he wasn't sure if the first incident was an accident or not. "He made me feel uncomfortable," the boy said.

"I'm a bit angry, scared and embarrassed."

Crown prosecutor Chris Winlaw said the alleged offences occurred in March 2011.

The trial continues today.
