Sunshine Coast becomes soft drink central

THE Sunshine Coast is becoming a hub for soft drink companies set up to rival market powerhouse Coca-Cola Amatil.

Businessman Peter Lavin has been active since his Noosa Beverages bought Cooroy Mountain Spring Waters and iconic Coast soft drink brand Wimmers in 2012.

And now, the National Beverage Group has established a national head office in Peregian Beach.

NBG launched a new range of soft drinks, from the Great Australian Beverage Company, at the Coolum Surf Club last week.

The 10 new drinks will be sold via a broad distribution network across Australia.

Chief executive officer Wayne Bettany said while the firm was based in Peregian Beach, the company was owned by 36 shareholders located from Cairns to Tasmania and across to Darwin and Perth.

"We love the Sunshine Coast, this is where we have chosen to base our business headquarters, the lifestyle reflects the persona of our brand," Mr Bettany said.

"We are keen to make a further investment in our region and it is our goal to set up a production facility on the Sunshine Coast within the next few years.

"We are proud to be an Australian-owned and Australian-produced soft drink company which provides employment opportunities for current and future generations.

"Each bottle's label is a tribute to our unique way of life, highlighting the iconic Aussie barbecue, tomato sauce, the thong, kangaroos and mateship. Our brand is about fun and flavour. It's a bit quirky and retro, but it's our point of difference and we believe our target audience will identify strongly with this branding."

The new range includes cola, lemon, blue lemonade, creamy soda, lemonade, lime, orange, raspberry cola and double sars, made from a 50-year-old recipe.

Five cents from every sale would be donated to the surf lifesaving movement.

"There's nothing more Australian than surf lifesaving and we are proud to announce that today we will be presenting Surf Live Saving Australia with a cheque for $25,000 as our minimum commitment for the next 12 months," said Mr Bettany.

"Our goal is to donate $250,000 over the next three years."
