Sydney to Hobart plane crash: Debris found

UPDATE: Police searching for a missing plane off Tasmania's rugged south-east coast say they have found some items from the aircraft.

A 2008 Cessna 172 with two men on board crashed into the sea near Tasman Island, about 300 metres away from a yacht competing in the Sydney to Hobart race on Monday evening.

The crew of a yacht competing in the Sydney to Hobart race witnessed the crash which occurred about 6:30pm (AEDT).

On board the aircraft was pilot Sam Langford, 29, and a 61-year-old photographer who was filming the race.

Police said the plane sank within 30 seconds and no-one was seen evacuating.
