Swim records tumble at Tokyo

AUSTRALIA'S dominance of the new 4x50m mixed medley relay format has continued with Robert Hurley, Christian Sprenger, Alicia Coutts and Cate Campbell breaking their own world record at a FINA World Cup meet in Tokyo.

The quartet hit the wall in a time of 1:37.84 to dip under the time of 1:38.02 they set in Singapore last week.

Coutts (pictured) also set new Australian and Commonwealth records in the 100m butterfly, winning gold in 55.30secs, and the 200m individual medley, taking silver in 2:05.63, a little more than a second behind Hungary's Katinka Hosszu.

Campbell also set a new national record of 23.47secs in winning the 50m freestyle.

After edging out Hurley to win the 400m freestyle, Thomas Fraser-Holmes set a new Australian and Commonwealth record in the 400m IM, finishing second to South Africa's Chad Le Clos.

On a record-breaking night, Hurley also set a new national and Commonwealth record in the 50m backstroke, his silver medal-winning time of 49.92secs.
