Suspicious fire destroys homestead in Western Downs

POLICE are investigating a suspicious fire at a property in The Gums last night.

Initial investigations indicate emergency services were called to the fire in Humbug Street around 11.30pm.

Upon arrival a homestead on the property was found to be fully engulfed with fire.

The fire was extinguished and the building was destroyed however a second structure, a shed was able to be saved.

The buildings were vacant at the time.

Police are investigating reports that two people were seen riding motorbikes and a utility was seen on the property around the time of the incident.

Police urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, or who may have any other information that could assist in their investigations to contact Crime Stoppers or Policelink.
