Support our local talents when in the market

I LOVE to play tourist in my own region.

Whenever I get the chance, I like to rediscover my own backyard - getting in the car for a Sunday drive or hitting the footpath and taking a stroll up a town's main street I haven't seen for a while. I am continually amazed at how it can change, evolve, and refresh.

Of course, the forces of supply and demand will come into play on the business front, but that change is mostly for the better.

New businesses and developments sprout up, established ones expand or relocate to bigger premises, others renovate and reorganise, and new owners put their own unique spin on old favourites.

Lately I have been stopped in my tracks and pleasantly surprised at the depth of creativity, the extent of innovation, the quirkiness of ideas and the professionalism I have encountered.

No wonder Sunshine Coast Business Confidence survey results released last week showed business confidence here had risen to its highest level since 2009.

More than half the businesses surveyed expected an increase in profitability over the first half of this year.

Let's show the Coast that that confidence is not misplaced.

Shop locally, buy locally, support local business and then we can all reap the benefits to our local economy.
