Students ready for RACQ Tech Challenge

MORE than 2000 students across the state are busily preparing their vehicles for Queensland's largest youth technology event, RACQ Technology Challenge, which returns to Maryborough this weekend.

The annual two-day event, which has been held in Maryborough for the last ten years, encourages students to use science, technology and design to devise potential transport options involving alternative energy sources.

As well as competing in the RACQ 24-Hour Human Powered Vehicle State Championship, students will also build and race robots, solar boats and cars, push carts and miniature dragsters powered by carbon dioxide.

A new category for the Technology Challenge Maryborough is the Inventibles, where students invent, design and make a product that solves a household problem.

RACQ General Manager External Relations Paul Turner said the Club fully supported the Technology Challenge's focus on youth and innovation, the quest for alternative mobility solutions, and protecting the state's environment.

"RACQ is excited to be sponsoring an event that involves our future road users coming up with innovative and practical technology solutions for vehicles of the future," Mr Turner said.

"We are also pleased to be back for another year supporting Queensland's biggest annual educational event for primary and high school students, particularly as it has a strong regional focus."
