GASTRO OUTBREAK: 50 students affected at elite Qld school

STUDENTS at one of Queensland's most elite schools have been placed in isolation after a health bug outbreak.

Dr Anu Anuradha of the Gold Coast Public Health Unit has confirmed that more than 50 students at The Southport School have been struck with gastroenteritis, with symptoms including vomiting, nausea and diarrhoea.

Sources say a makeshift hospital has been set up at the school.

TSS dean of boarding Tony Watt said none of the students required hospitalisation and praised Queensland Health for their advice in helping the school handle the outbreak.

More to come.
