Strict bail granted to rape accused

BAIL was granted to the young man accused of raping a woman during a home invasion at Finch Hatton, but he is prohibited from entering Mackay for any reason other than attending court.

He was further prohibited from going within 20 kilometres of Pinnacle.

The 21-year-old must reside at a set address within the Townsville jurisdiction and report to the Kirwan police station three times each week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Magistrate Damien Dwyer said.

He was also under curfew conditions and must not be absent from his set bail address between 6pm and 8am, the Mackay Magistrates Court was told.

Mr Dwyer said the man was on a prohibition order meaning he must abstain from drugs and alcohol while on bail and would be subject to testing.

The Pioneer Valley man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with rape, deprivation of liberty and break and enter charges over the alleged incident at a farm house between Finch Hatton and Pinnacle on June 6.
