Scene declared safe after gas leak locks down suburb
UPDATE: EMERGENCY services have declared safe the scene of a gas leak in Harristown.
Road blocks are still in place around Condamine St. However the gas which was leaking from a truck near the GrainCorp silos has now been stabilised.
It is believed the gas was phosphine which is used to control insects while transporting grain.
Police and Queensland Fire and Rescue Services are escorting the vehicle towards Brookstead where it will be safely stored and aired out.
EARLIER: Emergency services have shut down several streets in Harristown, Toowoomba after reports of a hazardous material incident.
There are concerns over a truck parked near the GrainCorp depot at the intersection of Alderley and Condamine Sts. It has been reported to be leaking gas.
Traffic is being turned away from the area to prevent exposure to the hazardous material.
A Workplace Health and Safety inspector has been called to the scene.
